Welcome back lords and ladies, small folk and scholars, to Dancing with Dragons, a podcast dedicated to the world of a song of ice and fire created by George R. Martin. I'm your host Tony, and with me is my partner, the Lady Minois. Today is a very exciting episode. We finally get to discuss and dissect the trailer of the newest Game of Thrones prequel series titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It feels surreal seeing this trailer since we and everyone thought the show would premiere in 2025. And last February we started to get a little nervous that there was no promotion trailer for the show and that it was scheduled to be out this summer. Nevertheless, we finally get the trailer. It premiered at New York City Comic-Con, which is still happening at the moment. With the stars of the show, Peter Claffy, Dexter Ansul, showrunner Ira Parker, and the man responsible for it all, Mr. George R. Martin. Alright, that is enough of me. Minwa, how have you been?
SPEAKER_00:I've been doing okay. I've been doing fine, been a bit busy. How about you? How have you been doing, Sony? I think you're you sound a bit sick. Are you sick? Are you okay?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, I I think I have allergies. So, um, if you hear me snoring for any reason, this it's been a drill. Just wake me up. Yeah, we haven't recorded for what it seems to be ages since we keep getting busy and just life keeps getting in the way. Just regular life stuff. So it keeps pushing back our recording sessions. So for those who've asked for the Rob Stark podcast that we have been promoting for it seems like a month already, thank you for your patience. We will get that out as soon as possible. But we thought that this newest trailer of the newest show should take priority. So before we dive into the New York Comic-Con panel with all the stars, we actually re-watched the trailer before we pressed record. And I asked you or texted you the other day. I said, Don't tell me anything, let's wait for us to be in front of the camera or you know, recording, and then we could get then we could talk about what we thought of the trailer. So we just re-watched it. I saw you clapping your hands, so I'm assuming that you like the trailer.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah, I mean, I guess I like I did a silent like clapping of my hands, I guess, uh, when when the trailer ended, just because I was excited for it. Um, it's not necessarily I think it's the best trader ever made or anything like that, but uh it's out of excitement, I think. And I think that it was a well done trailer. Like, you know, we did talk on the podcast before about how our confidence was a bit shaken, you know, when the show like, or we had reasons at least to to doubt when I saw the trailer, I was really reassured, but also pleasantly surprised because um if you watch the trailer, which if you're listening, I'm sure you already did, um, it has a very like comedic tone, which I don't know if I expected because at the beginning we talked about it being um like when we were trying to set the expectations for our listeners, we were like uh like a buddy road strip comedy set in Westeros. But at the same time, once like as time passed and we started talking about Dunk a little bit here and there, and how he's very noble, I guess I didn't really uh remember that description. It came back to me when I was watching the trainer because I expected it to just be a bit, I don't want to call it more serious, but I guess not as lighthearted. But I think that it's good that they're going in that way because it is going to be such like a breath of fresh air for uh the the fantasy genre as well as you know the Westerosi on-screen universe because you know, with Game of Thrones, Half the Dragon, they're very like heavy, lore-filled shows that are just you know all about dragons and royalty, and this is gonna be completely different. And I like that they're stretching that to even the tone of the show. So it's gonna be something completely new. I'm excited. Like it's a trailer that made me excited for what's to come. But I yeah, I feel like I talked a lot. What were your initial thoughts?
SPEAKER_01:No, I think I really liked it, I really enjoyed it. I won't say which, well, the first shot you see of the trailer is essentially the first pages of the book where he's burying Sir Arlen or Penetry, and then I won't say what shot in the trailer, but you also have the first episode and they're showing you the last episode of the season already. Because there's a you know, but I won't say what it is. Um, I like the lightheartedness. I I kind of threw me off when the guy said get the F out of my way because that sounded kind of modern.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Um, but they threw that in to say, hey, you know, this is still Game of Thrones, it's gonna be funny. But what really um got to me is the part when Egg says, Why do you think these people are better than you? And he goes, They are they are better than me. Like he's Sir Duncan, he's such a noble person, he feels uh inferior, and he has that not that he has a complex, but he's just been taught that way, and he's still a nice person, and he's still he's still gonna be the one of the most loyal people. So that really struck me when he said that, you know, just seeing Egg on screen and just you know, he kind of reminds me he's precocious and he's gonna be charming and he's gonna be funny. And Dunk is probably, you know, Dunk, for people who don't know, is an orphan from Flea Bottom. Like he's come from he is comes from nothing, he's trying his best to move up in the world as nobly as possible. And I I think you could see that in in the trailer. People were talking about this photo that was released, and go, oh my god, is that color? On the scene.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I saw that.
SPEAKER_01:Because everything with Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is always like muted, you don't really see color. Yeah, uh, so that was pretty funny. I mean, we get to see all these characters from the book. It was nice to see Tensor Two Tall from there's a Dornish girl. She's uh she's basically part of like not a circus, but a travel. What would that be called? Like they go to like tournaments and like traveling like puppeteering, you know. She they do puppets and like just to put on a show to make money, and you can kind of see Dunk. And it's funny because when you see this shot, he is so much taller than everybody else. You see that?
SPEAKER_00:It's like yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So that was a nice little shot to see the the the contrast and height, and then you can see her, and her, they call her too tall because duh, she's too tall. So back to the trailer. I'll ask you, we get to see Arian, the Targaryen, who's played by Finn Bennett. The one I love the the tone of his voice. I like the look. Okay, I won't say I like the look. It's kind of weird to see a Targaryen with short hair. You know what I mean? So it's it kind of threw me off.
SPEAKER_00:He has he's like a bit's a bit modern.
SPEAKER_01:He has a crew cut. Like, you know, he's called Bright Flame, he's called Arian the Monstrous. So he you you're gonna have to worry about him. And then you also see Sir Lionel Baratheon, which is kind of nice because we we get to meet a Baratheon who was pre-Roberts Rebellion, and and uh he's called the Laughing Storm. He has a big laugh and he's always cracking jokes. So you get to see him quite a bit in the trailer, actually. There is, you see, there's jousting, you know, there's always some kind of jousting in Game of Thrones. And I saw a quote from George that said in the panel, he said, I always love medieval tournaments in other pictures. We had several tournaments in Game of Thrones, they were in the background, but not the center. I wanted to do something during the tournament. I sent the TV writers a challenge. Let's do the best jousting sequence that's ever been done on a film. So I guess this is gonna be a proper jousting tournament.
SPEAKER_00:I love that George fixated on because he said something in the Comic Con panels when he was like, This is where he just kept emphasizing like tournaments and and toys and how important that is to his world building. So, you know, George, I love that I love when he fixates on on something so like specific about the world, because he also really fixates on like the way that his dragons are different than all the other dragons, yeah. And like different than so many other dragons, and he goes specifics about it. So I just love hearing him talk about that. And I don't know, it's it's it's a nice Georgie detail to look out for in this in this uh project.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I have two people DM the our page and like, well, so are there gonna be any like big battles here? Like, what's I'm like, well, I don't want to spoil it. I posted the trailer on our feed and somebody asked us, well, I'll DM you. I don't want to say it on the comments. And I said, Well, no, there's no big battles. This is more focusing on the small folk, and this is what George, I think I saw him say in the pan, I don't know if you have the quote saying that this is the first time we're not gonna focus on the bigger picture, the lords and the ladies and the big noble houses is more about you know, people kind of like House of the Dragon did that small folk episode, and we'll focus on people there. So I and I think also it's gonna show the class extension between lores and then. Oh, yeah, definitely. And that's I think why that quote from Egg to Duncan is like, why do you you gotta stop with the they're better than you just because they're you know, it's probably oh yeah, yeah. And that's something that's exciting, and I hope that that is a big big thing that we get to see in the show. Um Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I I I have the quotes um about from Shor it's this is from Shoriner Ira Parker who says, I'm just gonna say everything that I've written down. He says it's not the big sprawling game of thrones we've come to know and love. This is intimate, this is bruted, and this is hard. These novellas have so much hope, but they also have really brutal elements of this world that I think we've all come to love in West Ross where anything can happen. There is a level of unpredictability that resonates with people because that's just how your life is. And in this time period, this is me talking. Um, but he's talking about the time period of um and I think kingdoms, he says this is a like a place where nobody's thinking about magic. Uh, this could easily be 14th century Britain. This is hard nose, grinded out, Christy, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It's a wonderful place to be. We are ground up in this series. We are starting right at the bottom. We're not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens. He describes it also as saying, we have one character with a lot of hearts. So that just backs up what Tony just told you. There are no characters that are like vying for the throne and you know, in a in a power struggle and you know, uh trying to outwit one another and like play their hand and overpower one another, and like there are no Varus and Litted Fingers, you know, competing in this in the series. There's no like palace drama, you know, there's none of that. It's um what you don't see in Game of Thrones, everything that you don't see. So it's very interesting. Like as I said before, it's very different. Um, you know, that's what they've been emphasizing as well. Um, and I don't think you mentioned this or either of us mentioned this before, but um it's actually they they want to emphasize how different it is to the point where um they're not gonna use any like there's gonna be no opening theme for Nathaniel. So I guess like a meaning spoiler. Yeah, I guess I think it's something that people were expecting. I think we talked about this on the podcast as well. Like, oh, are they gonna use a new theme or they're gonna just reuse it from like Game of Thrones House of the Dragon and this, but they really want to like emphasize the point that this is not going to be what you've seen before. This is just like a similar world. You will see like elements of what you already know, you will see the Targaryans here and there, you will see the Baratheans, but it's not it's not the same. So uh it's exciting. I'm I'm I'm I'm intrigued. And you were gonna say something, Tony, as well, right?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I wanted to put some context first for those who are listening for the first time or who don't know, you know, Dunkin' Egg novellas, which are three of them. So the first season is gonna focus on the hedge knight, and it's set about 90 years before the Game of Thrones, 70 years after the House of the Dragon, uh, approximately around 209 AC. And by this time, the Targaryens have lost all their dragons, they died decades earlier. Uh, but they're still ruling. But their power is more political than magical, which is it's funny that you would think houses around Westeros, okay, they don't have any dragons, let's let's move in, let's try to do something. Um, but there was a big rebellion prior to this first story of Dunk, which is the Black Fire Rebellion, which is something we want to touch on in the future. Um, so that that's that. Um, I also wanted to add a quote from George. I don't I don't know if it's a dig to Game of Thrones. Maybe it is. Because he goes, it's as faithful as an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for. And you know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject. I've never seen him, but he's always talked about Game of Thrones in the past and House of the Dragon, but he's treating a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms like his baby. Like I want to be, I want to be a part of this every step of the way. Like he's there. Like I was happy to see him there, but it just kind of feels different. Like we always talked about you know, George always saying stuff and then posting his blog that's something different. I think this is gonna be as true to his vision as any other other other show. So I that's why I'm really excited about it. I I know people are just kind of bummed that it's only 30 minutes. Now, in hindsight, I'm a little bummed because I want to be in this world as long as possible. And now, you know, think about you can binge this in in less than three hours if he watched season one, which is yeah. And my hope is that we're not gonna have to wait two, three years to get a season two. Probably gonna be the case, right? We probably won't get the season two to twenty twenty-eight.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, at least because they need another season, like another year for another season, and then if they're if they're on track with what it seemed like they're going to do, which is the season per novella, then it's gonna be like 2027, hopefully. And or 2028, did you say it? 2027, 2027, end of it, probably, right?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I'm I'm gonna tell these people look, House of the Dragon season three is gonna come up summer of 2026. That's gonna take two years. Please make season two of the hedge of not the hedge night, of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for 2027. That way we have something in 2027. Yeah, and not just have I'm assuming that's hopefully that's what they're gonna do. I don't think their plan was to have two shows in one year.
SPEAKER_00:No, no, no, because they were supposed to, it was already supposed to be out, supposed to be already decked now.
SPEAKER_01:I keep uh forgetting the names of the book. So the first novella is The Hedge Knight, the second one, which was written in 1998, the second one is called The Sworn Sword in 2003, and then the third one is called The Mystery Night 2010. So those are the three. So season one is the hedge night, and then season two will be the sworn sword. Did I ever ask you which one was your favorite of the three?
SPEAKER_00:Uh I don't think you did, but I don't think I can answer that because I read this so long ago. Um that I I I need to reread it like now in these coming months before season one's app, just because I remember like parts of it because I read the first story not too long ago when we we said we were going to do a like a deep dive on it, but then I we did, but it was different than what we originally planned. So um I I reread the first one recently, but it's been a while since I read Neveras 2 and 3, and I hope to do that soon.
SPEAKER_01:I had the audiobook on for like a couple weeks, and um for those who don't know, uh the audiobook is narrated by Harry Lloyd, who played Prince Viserys.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, no way, I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_01:In Game of Thrones, uh season one. Um he has a nice voice, so he he does it really well. Also, uh it's kind of like a little lesson here. For those who don't know what, like I I had somebody ask me what's a hedge night. So a hedge night is a hedge night is kind of like a freelance night. You know, they're just going from house to house seeing that they can find work. So it's not like a person who is loyal or has a note to any particular house. They just go around seeing they could find if they could uh take part of tournaments, they could help, they can work, you know, that they're just going around whatseros, see what they can do. So they're not affiliated with any certain house.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and on that note, I do want to like just give some more information on our main character, Dunk. I'm not gonna spoil anything, obviously. This is just like to get you excited with us. Um, because you know, we described him as sorts of being like a Ned Starky type of character because he's very noble and uh his morals really matter to him. I don't think that really comes across in the trailer. He just comes off as like this, like um, I don't know how to describe him, but like a funny, like kind of guy you'd like to make fun of a bit, maybe. Um like an awkward guy.
SPEAKER_01:Maybe it's not I won't push over is is a little harsh. Like, you know, the guy's like, get the F out of the way. He's like, uh oh sorry, sorry, sorry. Like like he like he like he's so like out of his element there. Like he's trying to, he's tiptoeing around these people, and he's saying, like, I I don't belong with these people. And so that's gonna be a fun little uh aspect of his character to s to see come on, you know, on screen.
SPEAKER_00:He's not super confident, you know, he's a bit awkward. Um, and I think that's that's kind of one of the most like a one of the central themes of the show, because we did describe it as sort of like a buddy comedy, but at the same time, um, it seems like the show is gonna focus more on Dunk than Egg, like on this squire, on squire, on this knight, Sir Duncan. Um, so just to give you like a bit of an idea of where he's coming from and why he is kind of in this state. So he was, uh I think Tony mentioned this earlier on, he was the squire to Sir Arden of Penny Tree, so another knight, but then Sir Arden dies, and then Dunk takes up his armor and travels to uh the through Westeros and ends up at the tourney we see in the traitor. So that's kind of like where we start the show. Um I'm not spoiling that. That's like the beginning of episode one. That should be the beginning of episode one. So that's kind of where he is coming from. So you can see that like he kind of just lost his mentor. He's gonna be going through some sort of like a coming-of-age story as that kind of doubt. He's gonna come into his own a little bit. That's gonna be, I think, a central theme for uh Dunk in this series. Uh, he is a bit awkward and he has like his own charm, you know. He travels with, he will we will see him travel with these three horses and he uses just like a rope for a sword hilt. He's not, he's a very humble guy, simple guy, and he travels with three horses that he talks to. Like that's a thing that he does. When have you ever seen that in Game of Thrones? Yeah. Um, yeah, so it's just about the very ordinary guy. He's coming from nothing, you know, he didn't have a name, uh, uh an inheritance or money. He's just trying to make it. That's what uh Ira Parker, the showrunner, described him as. And he also has something very interesting in the Comic-Con panel. He says, you don't exactly know the final destination, but you just keep at it. That's all Dunk has. That's his only superpower. He gets up and keeps going. And when he said that, it's kind of reminded me of the monologue in the the Seer Superman movie where he's like, I get up every day, I put one foot in front of the other, and I'm just trying to live my life, and he said something like that. So I think that like the fact that that's what that quote reminded me of. It shows you like it gives you an idea. He is like a, in a way, like a Superman Clark Kent. Ned Stark, kind of like noble guy, but even though Ned was a bit too serious and you can't he wasn't like lighthearted in any way. Um, like that's gonna kind of just give you the idea of where uh uh Dunk is coming from. Like, imagine Superman in that movie when he's like kind of coming into his own. That's kind of the journey we'll see for uh Sir Duncan in in this story. So it's very interesting, it's very new. Um, and the perspective isn't going to shift to anyone uh like Nobel or Royal for this show at all.
SPEAKER_01:It's gonna be mainly him, uh, and it's character-driven so I think the Targaryens will be the side characters or the Baratheans, and I think for and he's such a character that you want to root for because there's a quote, I don't know if he says it in the trailer, but I as a quote that he says in the book, he says, I need to fight honorably, but sometimes I think I buried my courage alongside the old man. Was that in the trailer?
SPEAKER_00:And that's something I think so, because that sounds so familiar to me. Yeah, it feels like I just heard that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah. So it's just that that's something that you go, oh man, just I want to root for this guy. And it's a show that I hope doesn't get like um review bomb because people are not like, oh, we don't like it because there's no you know, dragons, there's no big battles, and and I I just want people to give it a chance. And I and I think it, you know, it it it's a tonal shift from the sweeping shows, you know. It's oh yeah, we're talking about and it's probably nice to see humble grounded characters instead of the people that we always I mean, there are humble grounded characters in Game of Thrones, um, but they're far and few. That's why they stand, that's why they stand out. Yeah, you know, well, Ned Stark stands out because he's so honorable. Um Barris and Summy, like those people just stand up because you're like everybody else is just conniving and trying to do whatever. Um so yeah, I I I'm really enjoyed this uh trailer. I'm hoping I was it, it was almost two minutes, so I don't think that was a teaser. I think that was the full trailer, correct?
SPEAKER_00:It was a little over two minutes, and they still call it a teaser trailer, so I'm assuming we're going to be getting another longer soon.
SPEAKER_01:I don't know. I mean, I guess for the people who know the material, you don't need another trailer. So, but maybe who are people who don't know might need another trailer. Because, like I said, you get to see probably the whole season in the trailer, like not you know what I mean, like you get to see moments that you know from the book, okay, that's this and this is that. Um, so we'll see. I'm assuming they'll have another trailer come out before the series um in January 18th, which I'm so happy that we got a date. Now we know. Okay.
SPEAKER_00:A birthday gift for me, a late birthday gift. It's two days after my birthday.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and it's uh we now we can schedule okay, we're gonna come out of our little break and then boom, we'll be ready.
SPEAKER_00:What's kind of a bit funny is that we've been talking about the show, but we didn't really go into that premise, like what the show is actually about. Obviously, if you're listening to this, you have an idea already. We described it in detail, but like the quick little premise that you get, like the official description of the show, to give you a very clear-cut idea of what it is. We haven't really read that to you guys. And um before reading one of the synopsis, synopses to you guys, we do want to warn you that um try not looking it up because some sources um include a spoiler. And lots of Game of Thrones like accounts or like um, you know, accounts of the post about movies, TV shows, and you know uh George's World on Screen. There's they share a very uh crucial spoiler to this uh show. It's argued that it isn't a spoiler, so that's why um some people are very open when talking about it. And we don't know uh how open the show is going to be with it, which is why me and Tony are not going to talk about it, because we kind of just want to keep that a mystery. If the show's gonna keep it a mystery, we don't want to ruin the fun for everyone. So um, we're going to be reading a synopsis that doesn't uh divulge a key spoiler to the show. So be careful when looking up the show because you might come across a spoiler if you haven't already. Here's a quick little premise to Annight of the Seven Kingdoms. Essentially before Game of Thrones, Sir Duncan the Todd and his squire, Egg, wander through Westeros while the Targaryen dynasty rule the Iron Throne, and dragons were still remembered. Great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends. So obviously, this is we've talked about this, this is set in a time post-Targarion. So in between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, we've already said that before. But it's very interesting because you know, like we're not just seeing a post-dragon world, we even got that in the trailer where we're seeing the Targaryen's popularity decline. Something that Egg himself says in the trailer, and the showrunner explains that now that Targaryans don't have their dragons, they find themselves finally without the thing that's put them in power. And 50 years on from the dragons, people are asking, well, why are we still letting them be in power? And that's kind of one of the key themes that's going to be explored in the show. Um, as Tony said, it's gonna touch on class, it's gonna touch on um like no nobility, um, in terms of not just the like not the noble people, but one's own co-code of conduct and uh honor. Um when describing the tone, uh no, when asked about when asked about the show, the showrunner said finding its place sandwiched between these two giants, aka game of one's house the dragon, um, was just tone, tone, tone. They needed a different tone to differentiate us, and that's obviously what we talked about before with the comedic roots and how they're gonna make it completely different. And he says these novellas are so lovely and sweet with so much hope, but they also have rooted elements of this world that people that people love about Westeros, and it's described as a story of hope, hardship, and survival from the ground level of Westeros. So uh it's very, very different. I I don't remember it being hopeful, honestly. I don't know if you remember it that way, Tony. I just remember it being fun. So I'm curious to revisit it through the show and the book as well and and reread the book as well and see if I can like see that. I don't I don't remember that at all. I just remember it being fun. It's been a while, so um, I with all of that uh being said, as well as like the the colorful visuals that we're seeing on screen, I wonder how it's going to resonate with audiences because it's a new take on the fantasy genre, kind of according based on what I know. And I hope people I hope it's good. I hope people are accepting of it. Um and you know, they're not just looking for something so gritty and dark because we have that. This is just fun, let's be fun, let fantasy be fun. So I'm excited. I I I I love the premise, I love the concepts, yeah, the tone. It's just it's speaking to me.
SPEAKER_01:I will say that you know, this show it will focus on you know the small folk, but there will be some big shakeups when it comes to the ruling class, which I don't know they'll focus on, because at the time of when the show opens, they're on the second or they're on the good, uh, is king. And again, no spoilers, some you know, there's gonna be a big shakeup of who's ruling and how. So it's not a simple and cut and dry of his, you know, he has a lot of sons, and um I don't know if I'm talking too much here, but I I I want to see how they um inject that into the show because it is a big deal. Um, you know, a new monarchy, or you know, how that that all is gonna be involved. That's all I'll say because you know, people are like, oh, there's not gonna be Targaryen. There will be Targaryen in the show heavily, I think. Uh and this shakeup will probably be in the first you know, few episodes. And the last shot of the trailer gave me chills because there's seven nights going. It's very, you know, foggy. It looks really nice that how they set it up. You see seven nights charging forward, and then you see another seven nights coming towards those seven nights, and that is something called the trial of the seven, which is something that I never thought we'll see, and I'm very excited about that. Uh, don't look up the trial of the seven, just wait until the show comes out. Uh, you know, we have trial by by combat, we have trial by you know, all those stuff in the game of thrones. So um, yeah, I it's it's gonna be very um I'm happy. I'm happy that it's getting positive uh from all the big people who are online from Game of Thrones, that they're really enjoying it. So um I think obviously we're gonna be knee deep into the show and weekly reviews of every episode, which again is only six, but still that's better than nothing. And it's and I think it's enough. You know, like like I'm like I'm being spoiled. I want 45 minutes, but no, we don't need that. I think the story, when you read the book, you're like, this is not ten episodes.
SPEAKER_00:This is this is six.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, this is six, and I think that last episode is gonna be very, very exciting and um thrilling, and can't wait to see it. I have a couple more quotes from George. He says, and I quote, I've seen all six episodes now, the last two in Rough Cuts, admittedly, and I love them, Martin said. Um, Duncan Egg have always been a favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet The Laughing Storm and Tanzall Tutal. I'll finish my thoughts here on the trailer. I like the fact that they didn't promise dragons, it gave you a little fire from a little pay or whatever mechanical, not mechanical, but whatever that dragon was. Uh but it does, I think, promise a story. About honor, part. If the series delivers on what is teasing, like the conflict, the growth, like true stakes of like the real world, of the real people, the small folk, it could be you know a real gem in this thrones franchise. Yeah, and also it reminds us that Westeros isn't just made of crowns, it's made of these people. And I think uh it's a nice uh break from the the war and the constant conflict that we see from Game of Thrones and now House of the Dragon, which is gonna be season three, it's just gonna be chaos.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Now we're in full-fledged war with you know, civil war.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, you know, you said that's gonna be like kind of like a breath of fresh air for uh Game of Thrones can be different. I think that is can be said, like that can be said for the fantasy genre. I've said that now, I think, a couple of times, just because I do think it's going to be I I I expect it's going to be uh different and fun. Not that fantasy isn't fun, by the way, not that uh like that this is completely new or that there isn't some lighthearted fancy out there, but I just feel like in recent years, um like there's just been a bit less of that, you know, like yeah, it seems like everything is doom and gloom.
SPEAKER_01:Everything's like uh the world is ending stakes.
SPEAKER_00:So I think like you're saying here, we get to sit back and enjoy characters and not yeah, and like most TV shows, like or I guess many TV shows nowadays as well, don't really focus on projects that are or like stories that uh don't really add, I guess, or much. You know what I mean? Like this doesn't add much to like it doesn't bridge a gap. Like, oh, what's the backstory of this character? Like that's what a lot of studios seem to be excited in nowadays, right? Like, what's the backstory of this or that? Like they're interested in working with kind of uh I guess yeah, Game of Thrones, something you already know, but it's it's gonna be character driven, it's gonna be fancy, it's gonna be people that you don't know. Infuse new life, I guess, into into HBO's lineup, the the what's on TV nowadays, the fancy genre. And I just hope like it's compatible with audiences. I hope it's good and that audiences love it as well.
SPEAKER_01:Not I don't I hope it's not just oh it's so underrated, and you know, like I think it's gonna be um received well by critics, but you just don't know and all about people. I think that's gonna be all for our coverage. I mean, we didn't really want to dive deep into the trailer because we don't want to spoil anything. And I'm I'm sure there's people out there with with you know YouTube videos already with explaining every single Easter egg that you see, which is kind of cool. If you want to know that, if you want to be spoiled, go ahead and do it. Because um, I do that all the time. I'll go and be like, okay, what's going on here? Like when I watch Lost of the Dragon, there's this channel has like a millions of subscribers, they'll go from like frame to frame, we'll be like, okay, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, which is fine.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Um, like uh if we did that as well, we would be giving away the stuff that we don't want to give out, you know. And yeah, yeah. We do want to leave some of the excitements for you and for us as well, because there has been cases where I think I experienced this with Game of Thrones more than more than any other show, but just because I was that type of person at that time, where I would break down or watch those breakdowns of every single frame, every single second. And to the point where it kind of took away some I don't want to say some of the excitement, but I guess some of the mystery for me. And I don't wanna I don't wanna do that anymore. Like even though I I I read it and I know what's gonna happen. I I just I would rather limit my my analysis and just focus on what I need to know, what's already being communicated to me without dissecting it too much now. You know what I mean? Like I don't wanna I feel like doing that with this trader would ruin it for our listeners and us.
SPEAKER_01:So and I'm I'm just surprised and disappointed with not even like regular people who have pages on Instagram or TikTok. We're talking about like the official accounts. Well, just post spoilers now. Like I'm what I'm I'm watching, I'm watching Task, uh the HBO, Mark Ruffalo and Crispy Cole, uh Fabian Frankel.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So he's amazing, by the way. He he has this Philadelphia accent to a T. Great job. And then I see HBO Max uh post a picture of him, and then if you slide over, it's him as Kristen Cole. I'm like, and they say something about his character. I'm like, why are you doing that? You're just spoiling the show for everyone. Like, you people just have this urge, they have to like, oh, we have to share this. Like, no, you don't. You know, not you, not the official. Like, I get it if other people do, but not the official account. But anyway, if you want to watch a good show, watch Task. It's uh seven episodes, it's up to episode five. Uh, I think Mark Ruffalo is a great actor. Um, but it's so funny. I didn't know that uh Fabian was in the show until my son was like, You gotta watch Task. And then I was watching episode two, and he goes, There he is, and I go, Oh, there's Crispy. Um, but yeah, he does a great job. It just it's it's crazy how people can you know turn on that accent because that's a hard accent to do.
SPEAKER_00:Okay, I I mean uh I don't know how the accent sounds like as someone that's not American, but I need to see the actor in a non-Kristen Cole role just because I need a Kristen Cole takes away from him. You know what I mean? Like Kristen is so crispy is so annoying that we can't focus on him. And I would like to focus on him a little bit because he's worth focusing on. So let me do that with task. If it's if he's not annoying in it, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01:No, I mean I think he comes out in the second episode or first, or yeah. I mean, he's uh FBI or not FBI, but he's working with the FBI, he's uh uh a police officer and he's joining in this investigation with Mark Ruffalo. Um it's the same people who did uh East uh Merit East of Meritown with that was incredible, limited series. I highly recommend it. I hope you enjoyed uh this episode of us um talking about the trailer of the Knight of Seven Kingdoms. It does come out January 18th of next year. That is what we're it is October 11th, so three months from now or so, we'll get to see the new show. And in the meantime, we're gonna be doing some episodes for real now. I think our next episode will be The Townfall of Rob Stark. Uh, again, if you have any other um topics you want us to talk about, please DM us.
